As a creative project, Brew Philosophy began in 2019 as a commitment to change the way I brewed my coffee—away from plastic pods and toward more sustainable methods like pour-over. As we entered the 2020 pandemic, my focus shifted. This project helped me find peace as I walked and worked on my family’s forest property. Most of these short poems were written in our small cabin on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with a fresh cup of coffee and a fire in the wood stove.

This project began as a meditation—an effort to internalize the teachings of the Tao and make them useful in the modern world. I started writing during the early mornings in our family’s cabin, with a cup of coffee and an open mind. These interpretations helped me process the uncertainty of the pandemic and stay rooted in simplicity, humility, and love. I didn’t aim to rewrite the Tao, but to walk beside it for a while—gathering insights from the stillness of our woods and the warmth of the fire.
